13. The financials of sustainability

How do you make your CFO say yes to investing in sustainability? This workshop is about the financials of sustainability, and demonstrating the benefits to the bottom line of the business. Erik van Dijk from KPMG will present the P&L of investing in sustainable cocoa supply chains in West-Africa. Alan McGill, a partner from PwC, will draw on experiences working with PUMA and other leading businesses, to develop the world's first environmental P&L accounts.  David Knopp and James Foster of the Wood Family Trust (WFT) will present their analysis of the tea sector in East Africa, and show how by understanding the economics of the value chain, they are able to engage with a variety of interventions to facilitate win-win relationships impacting the farmers bottom line and overall competitiveness of the industry. Andrew Smith from PwC will moderate the session.

We look forward to a lively discussion with the audience on questions such as: How are you using financial management approaches to mainstream sustainability? What techniques have worked well to make the business case for sustainability initiatives? What challenges are you facing to communicate the financial value of sustainable procurement internally?
