Jan-Willem Grievink

Food- Chain & Strategy Counsellor

Jan-Willem Grievink (1952) is a Strategic Researcher and University Teacher at the Postgraduate Business School EFMI (Academic Food Business Research Centre of Groningen University), specialized in strategic international food-chain issues. He is also the Managing Director of the Dutch Food Service Institute, a research and business analysis platform of the main suppliers, wholesalers and outlet formats in the foodservice industry in the Netherlands.  With his food chain expertise, he worked for several major players in the (international) food-supply-chain at a boardroom level, counseling them in new strategies.

Before his research and Counseling practice, Jan-Willem worked as a Commercial Executive Officer in food-retail (CEO of a supermarket Chain), Marketing director in the food-industry, and Editorial CEO in the media industry (food magazines and EO Public TV Organization in the Netherlands)

Born the son of a farmer, he first trained to be a pilot in the Dutch Army, where he learned what it means to see coherence in tough issues. After his army period, he studies Marketing and Business Economics in his evening hours. He is renowned in the business as an  expert in retail and foodservice concepts, supply chain issues, and observer of current and future trends in these areas. He was responsible for the world’s largest study on the future of the food-supply chain (2001-2002), called ‘State of the Art in Food, The Changing World of the Global Food Industry”. This study was founded by Reed Business and Capgemini, and together with EFMI and Rabobank, he practices yearly updates on the study. Within FSIN, he leads yearly strategic studies around ‘Drivers of Change’ in the foodservice chains.
