Carlijn Totté

Vanderlande Industries

When asked whether she will still be in procurement in 2015, Vanderlande Industries’ (manufacturer of luggage, mail, and parcel handling systems, and other systems) sourcing manager Carlijn Totté (29) replies with an uncomfortable silence followed by the words that that would be looking awfully far into the future’. As long as there are challenges and she can keep learning, procurement will remain her profession  Because Totté wants to experience things  And she has done quite a lot of that so far. Her first job after graduating from the Eindhoven University of Technology in 2007 has both commercial and technical aspects, deals with relationships, and is on top of all that also international  That’s what captivates this young power girl, who also made a conscious choice not to start out in a trainee role, but
instead wanted to take real responsibility right from the start  And she has been doing so with verve. She does not want to limit herself to mere purchasing, but instead wants to create value for her company. Together with suppliers, she not only creates new components, but even completely new products  She uses close collaboration with colleagues from the sales department to considerably up the score rate of quotes. ‘As a buyer you can and must make a difference. And that goes beyond ensuring the supplier base is in order. As a business partner you have to anticipate your partners’needs’. So don’t be surprised to find this splendid bird flown in a few years time.
